About Ohio
Ohio, an American state that borders the Midwest to the northeast, is located in this area. Pennsylvania is to the east, West Virginia and Kentucky to the southeast and south, Indiana to the west, and Michigan to the northwest all border Lake Erie. One of the smaller states west of the Appalachian Mountains, Ohio is ranked 34th in terms of total area among the 50 states. But when it comes to population, the state is right up there. After being situated at Chillicothe and Zanesville during the early years of statehood, Columbus, a newly founded city with a prime location, was chosen as Ohio’s capital in 1816. The Ohio River, which derives its name from an Iroquoian term meaning “big water,” is where the state gets its name.
On March 1, 1803, Ohio, the first state to be created from the Northwest Territory, joined the union as the seventeenth state. Ohio has evolved to mirror the urbanised, industrialised, and racially diverse United States that emerged from a former agrarian era in many ways. Its lifestyle is so typical of the nation as a whole that it is frequently used to test attitudes, concepts, and commercial goods. Eight US presidents—William H. Harrison, Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, James A. Garfield, Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley, William H. Taft, and Warren G. Harding—were either born in Ohio or resided there.
Perhaps the most important aspect in the rise of the state has been its accessibility. It became a corridor for east-west travel due to its placement between the Eastern Seaboard and the centre of the Midwest and the lack of any physical obstacles to transit. The state is also located in the centre of the nation’s former industrial belt, adjacent to significant labour and raw material supplies as well as the markets in the East, Midwest, and South.
